DEAR MISS LONELYHEARTS: The best kisser I ever met knocked me off balance. My little joke was, “That’s why we have to go home now and lie down in a hurry!” We’ve been seeing each other for almost six months. This man can convince me to do almost anything — so much fun!
But, now he’s been transferred out of province for bigger money at a new company.
He’s leaving soon and he could have asked me to move with him, as his trucking partner, but he didn’t! Other women will soon have their hands on him, believe me!
I’m already 27 and I don’t want to date any more guys — just him. Now what can I do? I feel sadder every day.
— Will Miss His Kiss, St. James
Dear Miss His Kiss: He knows who you are and where you are! So tell him if he wants to be with you, the next move has to be his. Then let him have some free time without too much contact. Don’t crowd him, and you may get an invitation to join him sooner than you think.
Something you really need to consider, though, is whether you could enjoy trucking with someone in your face almost 24-7 — even his. Some couples go into the trucking industry together and it either works well, or they find out fairly quickly it’s a bad idea. Still, it’s worth considering when you feel the way you do!
Dear Miss Lonelyhearts: My heart is on fire because I found the love of my life! Unfortunately, he belongs to somebody else. I see him every day because he is my boss. I deeply admire him for the excellent work he does with his patients, and the way he treats his staff.
He also loves all sports, just like I do, and we talk sports a lot, because it’s a better topic than discussing patients. He also loves his wife and kids. I will never have this wonderful man in this lifetime!
My burning question? Do I continue working with the man I love and admire, and keep pretending to be just a work friend? Should I quit now, and go to work for someone I don’t care for or respect nearly as much?
I don’t know if I could bear that. It’s both enjoyable and painful to work alongside this doctor especially when we work late. Sometimes I’m so overwhelmed with feelings, I just want to lock his office door, grab him in my arms and show him how I feel! But I can’t, and of course I don’t.
So, does this mean I have to quit my job? It’s getting harder to go through this attraction to him daily, and then get in my car and drive home to my apartment while he goes home to his wife. I know she screams at him when he gets home late. I would never be like that!
I try hard to cover up my feelings, so I don’t think he has a clue I’m already in love with him. Where would I ever meet another man like him?
— Painful Situation, Winnipeg
Dear Painful Situation: As long as you work for this man and there’s nobody else in your life you’ll be watching “your” darling doc being a husband to another woman. You don’t need that kind of torture.
What you do need is to get free from this setting so you can look for a different man who is caring and intelligent — but free to be with you and love you back.
Now’s the time to look for another job and get involved in a fun social life. Sports like curling, skiing, pickleball and tennis attract men of all ages.
The trick is to take lessons and to practise enough so you have decent skills developed. Then you can have fun looking for a brand-new available guy.
