DEAR MISS LONELYHEARTS: My boyfriend had too much to drink on the weekend and he told me he wants us to experiment with different sex partners together soon. I thought he was joking. He wasn’t.

He already has a couple in mind and whipped out a photo of them. They were barely dressed. Yikes!

Then I thought, maybe this is God’s way of warning me away from this man.

Now that I’m clearly backing off, my boyfriend is calling and saying he was just kidding when he mentioned experimenting with another couple.

It sure didn’t sound like kidding, and who would joke about a thing like this to their soon-to-be wife?

We had been saving money for a big wedding, but today I said clearly, “I want out.” Then, I told my pushy mother and she said it was too late to cancel. She said, “You can’t embarrass us like this. We’ve already made some of the down payments to help you have the best wedding.”

Help me, please.

— Have to Escape, East Kildonan

Dear Have to Escape: Your brain and gut are telling you loudly that this marriage should not be going forward. No matter what Mama says, you need to honour yourself and get out of it.

Absolutely do so, even if you have to get a second job to pay off any down payments and bills accrued so far.

Get legal advice on any wedding- related bookings, as some people might try to put the squeeze on you if you don’t cancel or square up with them early enough.

Dear Miss Lonelyhearts: My big problem is not that my wife and I have fights, but that she keeps going to our grown children to tell them all the details. Within half an hour of any tiff we have, I’ll get a phone call from one of my sons, lambasting me.

The last time it sounded like their mother made them worried I might physically harm her. I’ve never laid a hand on any woman, or threatened to do so. I didn’t even spank the kids when they were young. This is absolute craziness.

My wife must be making things up to tell our boys. After any argument with her, I always leave the house and go for a long drive to calm down and give us both space. Then we just don’t talk about it again until the next problem surfaces. But after that, there’s often a worse fight because we’re still mad from the one before.

Please advise.

— Vicious Cycle, West End

Dear Vicious Cycle: Just calming down after a fight does not make all the problems go away. Instead, they get stockpiled, making room for new ones to get piled on top.

You also need to look at the ganging-up dynamic within your family. Your wife is trying to score points with your sons as her support partners, and you’re becoming seen as the bad guy.

At this point, you need professional help from outside the family, starting with a visit to see a relationship counsellor, to find someone you both like and respect, and can talk to freely.

Some counsellors work in a male- female duo, and that can often help balance things in the sessions with couples.

Premier League would be all too relieved if Blues simply went away for a while

Manchester City will face Liverpool in the Premier League next weekend.

That is a statement of fact. The match will kick off Sunday, October 11 at 4:30 p.m. local time (10:30 a.m., CT, FuboTV) at Anfield, though the 90 minutes that follow will be more a spectacle than a game, if not a circus.

By now the football world — as well as the general news cycle and relevant authorities — has had more than a week to absorb the shock of the sport’s biggest tremor of recent times.

Man City, according to the findings of an independent commission, broke more than 100 of the Premier League’s financial rules between 2009 and 2018. Its breaches, per the ruling, were deliberate, premeditated and at industrial scale.

’Disgusting’ posters being investigated by police

Morgan Modjeski 4 minute read Yesterday at 2:22 PM CDT

The Winnipeg Police Service major crimes unit is investigating what some have labelled offensive and hateful posters on full-display at a Winnipeg home.

One of the people irked by the display is Gracie Garrett. She’s has lived on Ashburn Street in Winnipeg’s Minto neighbourhood for almost ten years. She’s never felt unsafe in the neighbourhood before, but now, a set of posters plastered on a nearby house are making her feel uneasy.

The five signs, posted facing the street prominently on a front window, contain a slur, refer to Nazis as “heroes” and call Muslims, Christians and other groups “evil.”

Learning of the signs Friday, Garrett said she’ll be reporting the posters to police, as she worries they incite and promote violence.

Dennis Northcott has launched a game without frontiers.

The Winnipeg entrepreneur is the co-designer of Galactic Cruise, a board game published last year by Kinson Key Games LLC, the business he co-founded. Since its release, Galactic Cruise has been translated into 11 languages and sold around 50,000 copies worldwide.

It’s also one of three finalists for this year’s Deutsche Spiele Preis, a prestigious community-voted board game award. Northcott will travel to Essen, Germany, later this month, where the winner will be announced at Spiel Essen, an annual board game trade fair.

“It’s been amazing,” Northcott said of the response to Galactic Cruise during an interview in his Island Lakes neighbourhood home earlier this week. “The sales have been great, but it’s also been amazing in terms of people giving their reviews.”

BRANDON — Canada Packers has strengthened its business and laid the foundation for future growth during its first year as an independent company, its president says.

The Brandon-based pork producer, separated from Maple Leaf Foods in October 2025, established its own leadership, strategy, systems, culture and identity while continuing operations across its hog production farms and regional hog barns in southern and eastern Manitoba.

The company’s first year was focused on building a successful standalone business while continuing to serve customers, communities and shareholders, president Dennis Organ said.

“Market conditions over the past year have been more challenging than we anticipated when we became a separate entity,” he said in an email. “Despite that, we continued to execute against our priorities, including increasing processing volumes, maintaining disciplined operations and strengthening the business.”
