Faouzia on Kelly Clarkson today
Manitoba pop singer Faouzia will appear on The Kelly Clarkson Show today.
The Moroccan-born vocalist, who grew up in Carman, released her debut album, Film Noir, on Nov. 7. Known for her collaborations with such artist as John Legend and David Guetta, she contributed Arabic vocals to a version of Clarkson’s single I Dare You, released in 2020.
She will be performing on the NBC daytime talk show, which will also feature guests Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley — stars of the new film Hamnet — and actor/podcaster Matt Rogers. The Kelly Clarkson Show airs at 5 p.m. on Citytv.
WECC fundraiser reaches almost $70K
The West End Cultural Centre has surpassed its goal to raise $50,000 one week after putting out a desperate plea for public donations.
“Thanks to an overwhelming response from the community, we raised almost $70,000 and far exceeded our original goal,” executive and artistic director Jorge Requena Ramos wrote in an email to patrons on Monday afternoon.
Last week, Requena Ramos told the Free Press the non-profit Ellice Avenue music venue was at risk of laying off staff and cancelling programming if the fundraising goal wasn’t met by the end of the year.
With the immediate goal met, WECC staff and board members will be “carefully evaluating programming, partnerships, grants and funding opportunities,” Requena Ramos wrote this week.
Event seeks potential kidney donors
Renewal Canada is hosting an event for potential kidney donors at the Rady JCC, 123 Doncaster St., tonight at 7:30 p.m.
Speakers include rabbis Carnie Rose (Shaarey Zedek) and Kliel Rose (Etz Chaim) and past kidney donor Esther Dick. The event will raise awareness of the need for living kidney donations; attendees can be swabbed to see if they are compatible donors.
Renewal Canada — a branch of a New York-based organization — works within the Jewish community to help facilitate live kidney donations to patients with kidney disease.
