Two actors with Emmy nominations to their names have been announced to join the cast of the Jon Hamm series American Hostage, shooting in Winnipeg this fall.

According to Deadline, Mireille Enos (The Killing) will play Barbara, the wife of Hamm’s character, Fred Heckman, an Indianapolis radio reporter.

His mentee at WIBC news, Ben Hairstone, will be played by William Jackson Harper, known for The Good Place and Love Life.

The eight-episode series, executive produced by and starring Mad Men star Hamm, is a true story based on a podcast of the same name, which Hamm also voiced.

The 1970s-set psychological thriller follows Heckman’s conflicted time in the spotlight after a man named Tony Kiritsis demands to be interviewed on his radio program while involved in an active hostage situation; Kiritsis was holding his mortgage broker captive after he was refused an extension to pay his mortgage.

Harper, who receieved a Tony nomination for his role in Uncle Vanya on Broadway, will star in the upcoming fourth season of The Morning Show on Apple+. Enos also has a Tony nomination for Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

American Hostage is co-produced by Shawn Ryan, known for The Shield and Lie to Me.

As Manitoba Hydro and City of Winnipeg crews continued the days-long effort to clean up the mess and restore power to thousands of homes affected by the long-weekend weather blast, some of the conversation related to the storm focused on how extreme events such as this have become more commonplace in a region where tornadoes were long considered a rarity.

“It’s not good to see,” Chancy said of the unusual animal cruelty case. “You can understand how people are angered by such vile acts.”

In the first incident, a sleeping goose was run over and injured shortly before 10 p.m. in a parking lot on Henlow Bay, off Scurfield Boulevard. Chancy said he did not know what happened to the goose after it was injured.
