CALGARY – Regina’s Kali Christ brought home gold in the women’s 1,500 metres on Thursday, the second day of the Four Continents speedskating championship.

Christ finished in one minute 57.679 seconds to earn the top spot on the podium, ahead of American skaters Sarah Warren (2:00.415) and Jamie Jurak (2:01.897).

It was the 30-year old’s second medal of the competition, having also captured bronze in Wednesday’s Team Sprint event alongside teammates Carolina Hiller and Lindsey Kent.

Calgary’s Ted-Jan Bloemen finished second in the men’s 1,500 metres on Thursday, one day after winning gold in the 5,000 metres.

The 2018 Olympic medallist finished the distance in 1:45.659, behind Kazakhstan’s Dmitry Morozov (1:45.327) and ahead of South Korea’s Min Seok Kim (1:46.471).

Toronto’s Hayden Mayeur helped Canada secure its sixth medal of the competition in Thursday’s final event.

He earned silver (8:17.970) in the men’s Mass Start, joined on the podium by gold medallist Cheonho Um of South Korea (8:17.010) and bronze medallist Zach Stoppelmoor of the United States (8:18.140).
