Jennifer Abel, the Canadian Olympic diver who won a silver medal in the women’s three-metre synchronized springboard event, had an unforgettable homecoming from Tokyo this week.
The 29-year-old from Laval, Que., was greeted at Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport by friends, family and pro boxer boyfriend, David Lemieux. Abel’s boyfriend was on bended knee with a diamond ring in hand as she walked in.
Team Canada posted a video of the proposal on Twitter saying, “From an Olympic medal in Tokyo to a diamond ring back home, @JennAbel91 has a lot to celebrate.”

On Tuesday, Abel confirmed the news on Instagram, sharing a photo with Lemieux with the caption saying, “I said yes to my soulmate.”
Lemieux’s management team, Eye of the Tiger Management, also went on Facebook to congratulate the couple with a photo of their engagement and caption saying, “Back from the Olympics with a silver medal and ring on the finger!”
