Northumberland County is reaching out to residents for input about improvements to local infrastructure, including county roads, bridges and culverts.

Residents can provide feedback on the county’s plans for maintenance and renewal of local infrastructure by completing an online survey.

“Northumberland County is enhancing asset management plans to prioritize investments in local infrastructure in order to ensure sustainable service delivery over the long term,” the county said.

As part of this process, the county is seeking feedback from the public on the current condition of assets such as county roads, bridges, culverts, retaining walls and storm sewers, along with expectations for future maintenance and renewal.

“Well-planned and well-maintained infrastructure is critical to municipal service delivery and a thriving community. With aging assets and the impacts of population and climate change, municipalities are increasingly challenged with ensuring the long-term sustainability of their infrastructure.”

The county said asset management planning helps municipalities make strategic, evidence-based decisions about infrastructure investments. Northumberland County began developing a formal asset management system in 2015 and has been moving forward with phased implementation.

This process is aligned with direction from the province that states all municipalities must have a comprehensive asset management plan in place by July 1, 2024.

To share your thoughts on this planning process, complete the online survey by Nov. 6 by registering at JoinIn.Northumberland.ca.
