The Marion and Dean Finlay Citizenship Award is handed out annually to a student in each of grades 6, 7 and 8 based on a vote by the entire class. The recipient is recognized for never insulting other people, working well in groups and including others.
This year’s Grade 6 recipient is Sydney, with honourable mentions going to Avery, Liam, Julianna and Mackenzie.
Sydney, incidentally, was featured on the front page of the Winnipeg Free Press in September of 2005 when we documented the Class of 2017’s first day in Grade 1.
At the time, she was, um, a little insecure about being “the new kid” and having to let go of her mom’s hand.
Things change.
