The Public Utilities Board approved a rate reduction for Centra Gas Manitoba Inc. customers effective Nov. 1.
The rate decrease is the result of forecast decreases in the expected costs of purchasing natural gas over the next 12 months, the PUB said in a news release.
Gas commodity is sold on a cost-recovery basis, with Centra charging customers only what Centra pays for gas. It does not make a profit on its sale. The natural gas rate reduction is projected to decrease the annual bill for a typical residential customer by approximately $16 per year, or 2.7 per cent. Actual impacts to customers vary depending on customer class, service type and consumption levels, the PUB said.
Centra’s Gas commodity rate is subject to quarterly amendment every year on Feb. 1, May 1, Aug. 1 and Nov. 1.
The PUB, an impartial tribunal and regulator that’s arm’s length from government and acts in the public interest, will review the gas commodity rate again for Feb. 1.
