The Assiniboine Park Conservancy is offering an assortment of winter activities beginning this month.

The skating area at Riley Family Duck Pond and the Cargo Bar pop-up patio will open at Assiniboine Park Friday.

A staging shelter beside the pond provides a space for patrons to use the washroom and warm up.

The site is open daily for skating from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Hockey sticks and pucks are not permitted on the pond.

The Cargo Bar is open Friday 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday, Sunday and holidays from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. It serves craft beers, wine, specialty cocktails and a selection of non-alcoholic drinks.

Food is available at the nearby Park Café, located in the Qualico Family Centre. The café is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and offers a full menu with dine-in service and a takeout window.

The park also features a toboggan hill, cross-country ski trails and year-round running, walking and cycling pathways.

“Assiniboine Park is a great place to enjoy a variety of outdoor winter activities,” park spokeswoman Sara Wolowich Brown said in a news release Thursday. “We invite visitors to embrace the season and head outside for some fresh air and exercise.”
