Marathoners finally got the chance to stretch their legs as the Manitoba Marathon returned to Winnipeg streets on Sunday.

The annual event was cancelled last year owing to the pandemic and pushed back for a September start this year, rather than its regular running on Father’s Day.

About 3,000 participants were registered to hit the ground running Sunday morning.

A limited field of 500 athletes were expected in the full 42.2-kilometre marathon, while others planned to get moving in the marathon relay, the half-marathon, 10-kilometre and five-kilometre runs.
