WINNIPEG – A St. Vital school trustee has joined the race to replace Coun. Gord Steeves in an upcoming byelection.
This morning, Mike Ducharme announced he will seek the St. Vital seat in the fall municipal byelection. Ducharme is a Louis Riel school trustee and insurance broker who was born and raised in St. Vital. Ducharme said he has no political affiliations, and will run as an independent.
Progressive Conservative Greg Nordman, New Democrat Brian Mayes, and 22-year-old University of Manitoba student Dan Fingler have already announced they will run in the fall byelection.
Steeves is expected to resign his seat at the end of August. The longtime councillor plans to run for the provincial Conservatives in Seine River in the Oct. 4 election.
Nordman is a salesman for coffee distributor Quality Vending and the brother of two-term Coun. Grant Nordman (St. Charles). Their father, Ric Nordman, was also a city councillor for St. Charles.
Mayes is a lawyer and former school trustee.
