Two newly elected councillors will be joining the mayor’s inner circle.
Mayor Scott Gillingham announced his appointments to city council’s executive policy committee Wednesday afternoon.
While Couns. Jeff Browaty (North Kildonan), Evan Duncan (Charleswood-Tuxedo-Westwood) and Vivian Santos (Point Douglas) will be returning, new councillors Lora Meseman (Transcona) and Sara MacArthur (River Heights-Fort Garry) have been named chairwomen of the water and waste and community services committees, respectively.

Councillors Ray Dubois and Lora Meseman congratulate each other after Tuesday’s city council swearing-in ceremony.
“These are significant responsibilities, and I’m glad that you have agreed to step up to these roles,” Gillingham said at a news conference Wednesday.
Browaty is returning as chair of finance and economic development and has been appointed deputy mayor. Duncan, previously the chair of property and development, will now head public works, a role previously held by former councillor Janice Lukes, who did not seek re-election. Santos is now leading the property and development committee and will serve as acting deputy mayor.
Meseman replaces former councillor Ross Eadie, who was defeated in his re-election bid, in water and waste.
Gillingham noted that with its two new members, the executive policy committee has achieved gender parity.
He stressed that he would prioritize collaborating with councillors, including those outside of the executive policy committee.
“I want to emphasize that EPC is just one part of city council. We have 16 people elected to serve the people of Winnipeg, 16 people around the council table, each bringing their own experience, their own ideas, and their own priorities. All councillors will have a voice.”
Winnipeg’s city council members, including nine new faces, officially began their jobs Tuesday, after reciting a declaration of office.
The group includes the highest level of turnover city council has seen since 1992.
Further appointments to city council boards and other positions will be announced Nov. 10.
