ARIES (March 21-April 19)

You will have to go more than halfway when dealing with others, which is no biggie. This simply requires you to be present, accommodating and willing to go along to get along. Be aware that a partner, spouse or close friend might surprise you.

Model Bella Hadid turns 30 today.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20)

This is a productive day for you because you’re energetic and up for new ideas and novel ways of doing things. Be flexible because your work routine or something related to your health or a pet might require a new approach. Are you up for it?

GEMINI (May 21-June 20)

Stay light on your feet because unexpected invitations might come your way. Social outings, sporting events and fun activities with kids might offer exciting but unexpected detours. (Parents should be vigilant about their kids to avoid accidents.) Work colleagues are supportive.

CANCER (June 21-July 22)

Relax at home if you can. Having said that, something unusual might take place. Someone unexpected might drop by. Home repairs might arise. Family news might be exciting. To cover all the bases, stock the fridge so you’re ready for anything.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22)

Unexpected short trips, visits, new faces and new places will make this an exciting day. Stay flexible so you can go with the flow, which might be shifting throughout this day. (Actually, your hands might be on the rudder and you are steering these changes.)

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

Keep an eye on your money and possessions because something unexpected could impact them. Protect what you own against loss, theft or damage. However, you might see a new and original way of making money. Conversations with daily contacts are pleasant.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

The moon is in your sign dancing with unpredictable Uranus and fiery Mars triggering an impulsive and exciting energy. It’s hard to say what will happen, but you’re up for anything. Say yes to invitations from friends and groups. Fly your colours.

SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

This is a restless day for you but you’re ready to defend yourself and speak up, especially with authority figures. Fortunately, with Mercury in your sign, you’re an effective communicator. And Venus in your sign makes you smooth and charming. (Shop for wardrobe goodies.)

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

A friend might surprise you or you might be active with a group that suddenly takes a new turn or adopts a new agenda. Travel plans will appeal. Be ready for sudden changes that might affect banking, insurance issues, taxes, debt and inheritances.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

People notice you more than usual, which is curious because your relationship with a boss, parent or someone in authority might have a surprise in store for you. Someone might throw you a curveball. (This surprise could be pleasant — or not.) You’ll defend yourself over financial issues.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

You’re an idealist who wants to make the world a better place. Now in particular, you’re excited about a cause or something related to publishing, the law or medicine. You feel you can make strides if you play your cards right — and of course, you can.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20)

Keep an eye on your banking details, as well as other red-tape issues regarding taxes, debt, inheritances and insurance matters, because something unexpected might occur. Remember — you snooze, you lose. Travel and love with someone “different” might offer thrilling opportunities.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY

Model Bella Hadid (1996) shares your birthday. You’re an excellent problem-solver. You pay attention. You’re perceptive, mindful and sensitive. This is a slower-paced year. Take time to rejuvenate your energy. Focus on business and personal relationships and make sure you hang out with people who have your back — folks who are kind and helpful.

Phoneless concert a beautiful chance to bask in moment

Outside the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, digital billboards flashed fans their singular photo op for the night: “I took this photo before I saw Phoebe Bridgers: The Lost Tour 2026.”

It is, as it is for so many other people, my only documentation of a concert by one of my favourite artists. The American singer-songwriter — who I discovered at the Winnipeg Folk Festival in 2018 — has had a meteoric rise in the past few years, winning three Grammys in 2024 as one third of Boygenius, the indie-rock supergroup rounded out by Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker, and opening for Taylor Swift on select dates of her titanic Eras Tour.

Now, Bridgers is touring in support of Lost Weekend, her third album and first since 2020’s Punisher. It’s a feat of a record, a richly textured meditation on loss and grief, written in the aftermath of the death of her dad, with whom she had a complicated relationship.

So she is in a position to not only play multiple sold-out arena shows, but also insist that those shows be phone-free.

Final hurdles are moving on in your mind and life

Maureen Scurfield 3 minute read Yesterday at 2:01 AM CDT

DEAR MISS LONELYHEARTS: I just ran into my former husband with his new woman. It was a shock. She looked nothing like me — not nearly as good. In fact, she’s the opposite of me — red-haired, freckled, tall and skinny like a rake. I’m short, dark, with golden skin from my Italian background. That was what my husband used to say he loved in a woman.

Does that mean he lied — that he really didn’t like my looks and secretly longed for the opposite? That seems crazy to me. But I should mention that in our last miserable years together he didn’t even want to hold me in his arms and look at me. He sometimes slept at his office (or so he said) because he was “too tired to drive home.”

He could have been elsewhere — like in some other woman’s home — because he always used his cellphone to call me, not his office line.

How can I forget about the man I loved so much and finally move on?

Former Eskimo calls for team to change name

Rob Drinkwater, The Canadian Press 3 minute read Sunday, Nov. 29, 2015

EDMONTON - A former Edmonton Eskimo who once visited Nunavut with the Grey Cup says it's time to respect that the team's name is considered offensive to aboriginals.

"We have to honour the aboriginal communities of our great country and respect the fact that the name is deemed offensive and oppressive to these communities," Andre Talbot said from Toronto, where the retired 2004 Grey Cup champion played for the Argonauts but spent his final season in 2010 with Edmonton.

"Sports organizations need to be community building organizations. And if we're isolating and offending part of that community, then our particular organization or league is not doing its job."

In 2012, Talbot was part of a 100th anniversary tour of the Grey Cup that stopped in Iqaluit, and the trip involved more than just posing for pictures with the trophy. For two days, Talbot visited community centres and spoke with youth, answering their questions and even playing touch football with them.

Yielding attraction

Joel Schlesinger 6 minute read Yesterday at 2:01 AM CDT

Yield is a Rorschach test for investors. Where one see opportunity in high payouts from an investment, another sees high risk.

Consider bonds: yields are moving higher, which implies higher risk in the market, but to an investor considering buying a bond, higher yields represent higher income.

For most of the past 18 years, bond yields have been near historical lows and investors have sought alternatives.

“Canada’s population is aging, with a growing number of investors approaching or entering retirement and looking for more income,” says Pat Sommerville, co-chief executive officer of Hamilton ETFs in Toronto.

Puppies, stocks — ‘zoomies’ abound

Andrew Froese 4 minute read Yesterday at 2:01 AM CDT

This spring, I adopted a three-month-old rescued German Shepherd mix. To say she is easily excitable is an understatement.

It is not really her fault. A puppy’s frontal cortex, the part of the brain that helps with decision-making and impulse control, is still developing. When an older dog, or a human, gets tired, we generally understand we should rest. Puppies have not quite figured that out. They often interpret tiredness as a signal something is wrong, which makes them more alert, more reactive and harder to settle.

That creates a feedback loop. The puppy gets tired, which makes her frantic, which makes her more tired, which makes her even more frantic. Eventually, this becomes what people call the “zoomies”: frantic sprinting, biting, jumping and general chaos.

From the outside, it looks like the puppy has too much energy. In reality, the opposite is true. The zoomies are not a sign of excess energy. They are a sign the puppy is overtired and does not know it yet.
