MOON ALERT: There are no restrictions to shopping or important decisions today. The moon is in Cancer.

ARIES (March 21-April 19)

Relations with parents and authority figures might be strained. Resist the urge to be too pushy. Likewise, avoid other people who are pushy. Your best choice is to work hard and get better organized. Fortunately, relations with partners are good.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20)

Steer clear of squabbles, which can easily arise. You might feel criticized. Or conversely, you might feel critical of someone else? Certainly, you won’t hesitate to express your opinions. Easy does it. Instead, focus on sports, social outings and fun activities with kids.

GEMINI (May 21-June 20)

Money disputes or quarrels about ownership of something might arise. In fact, you have strong feelings about your possessions. Meanwhile, someone older or perhaps a member of a group might think otherwise? Tread carefully. Talk to family members.

CANCER (June 21-July 22)

The moon is lined up with Mars in your sign at odds with Saturn. (Yikes!) This puts a strain on your conversations with others because you might be a tad aggressive and defensive at the same time. This is a poor day to ask for permission or approval from anyone. Just tread water.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22)

Something going on behind the scenes might rankle you. It might have something to do with rules and regulations, the law or tradition. Whatever it is, you might want to ignore it or fight it. (You might question the wisdom of this.)

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

Relations with friends and groups might be tested, especially regarding shared expenses or the division of resources or property. You might feel someone is not being fair? They might demand too much of you? Or you might think they’re not pulling their weight.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

This is a tricky day, because you like to keep the peace and enjoy harmony in all your relationships. But right now your relations with authority figures are testy, even aggressive. You might feel criticized, especially by a partner. Don’t get your belly in a rash.

SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Be smart and steer clear of controversial subjects like politics, religion and racial issues, because they could quickly explode into an argument. Meanwhile, issues related to your job, work, or even your health seem to be onerous. Seek solitude in pleasant surroundings.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

Something to do with socializing or dealing with kids, vacations, the arts or romance might be disappointing. Someone might be too opinionated or coming on too strong. (Hopefully, this person is not you.) Take it easy and lower your expectations. Be reasonable and forgiving.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

This is the classic day for irritable conversations and challenges dealing with spouses, partners and close friends. An older relative or a parent might even be in the mix. Everyone has an opinion and there’s nowhere to run for cover. Send out for dark chocolate.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

Although relations with others are aggressive and challenging, nevertheless, you can get a lot of work done. (This might be your best option.) Steer clear of negative thinking as well as hurt feelings. Life is short — and fat.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20)

Disputes about money and finances, especially if they have to cover the cost of a vacation, social occasion, sporting events or something to do with the entertainment or education of children, are likely. Take your pick. The day has its challenges. Actually, it’s the perfect day for a nap.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY

Musician Roger Waters (1943) shares your birthday. You are complex. You’re sensitive, organized, brave and adventurous! You look out for the welfare of others. This is a year of learning and teaching. Take time to renew your spiritual beliefs. Explore meditation, prayer or introspection, along with philosophies that give you a better understanding of your life.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20)

A Winnipeg family is urging others to pay close attention to their prescriptions after a highly-potent pill — 10 times the strength it was supposed to be — made their child seriously ill.

Andrea Thidrickson and Kevin Barkley’s 10-year-old daughter is shaken after experiencing an accidental overdose and subsequent visit to the emergency room last week.

Their daughter’s pediatrician has, for several months now, prescribed two milligrams of the medication in question on a daily basis, the duo said.

On Aug. 14, the girl took a single pill containing 20 milligrams of it.

Dynacare labs quickly reach capacity ahead of strike

Nicole Buffie 4 minute read Yesterday at 3:06 PM CDT

Patients were being turned away from several Dynacare locations Saturday morning as people packed the labs in hopes of getting their blood collection done before workers strike.

By 10:30 a.m. the lobby at the Dynacare at 1581 Regent Ave. was standing-room only and walk-up patients were being turned away as the wait time for those lucky enough to get in creeped past two hours.

One woman got in right before workers cut off walk-ins at 10 a.m. after travelling to two other locations.

“I was driving by at 7:15 this morning and there was already a line-up to the road, so I was like ‘nope, not going there’ so I went to the one on Sterling Lyon (Parkway) and it was closed, and then I went to the one at St. Vital Mall and there had a line zig-zagging all the way through the corridors so I gave up and came back,” said Joanna, who declined to give her last name.

Property tax promise will be hardest pledge to keep

Tom Brodbeck 4 minute read Wednesday, Sep. 11, 2019

The majority of the promises made by Brian Pallister and the PC party in the provincial election campaign were modest ones. Most should be easy to implement.

The pledges, including spending $2 billion more on health care over four years, building 20 schools and working closer with police to fight crime, are largely continuations of what government was already doing.

This election was more about Pallister seeking approval for his government’s agenda – especially in health care – than getting a new mandate.

But there was one surprise election commitment – phasing out education property taxes – that will be far more difficult and controversial to implement.
