For the second year in a row, the initially announced headliner for the Country Thunder show at Princess Auto Stadium has been swapped out.

American star Kane Brown, who was scheduled for the July 3 concert, has left the lineup owing to “unforeseen circumstances.” His replacement is Nashville-based singer Josh Ross, who had a No. 1 country hit in 2025 with Single Again.

The rest of the bill remains unchanged: Bailey Zimmerman, Koe Wetzel and Robyn Ottolini will take the stage at the touring event, which is followed by the Mötley Crüe-headlined Rockin’ Thunder show on July 4.

Last year, Country Thunder headliner Jason Aldean left the bill of the July 10 show in April; he was replaced by Riley Green.

All remaining regular seats for Country Thunder — which is produced by True North Sports and Entertainment and the Winnipeg Football Club — are $99.50 plus fees. VIP packages are also available.

‘Senseless violence’: Man gets seven years for stabbing wife’s aunt to death

A Winnipeg man who fatally stabbed his wife’s aunt in the neck after she tried to calm a drug and alcohol-fuelled argument over $20 has been sent to prison for seven years.

Court of King’s Bench Justice Jeffrey Harris gave Dustin Swampy, 31, the sentence late last month for manslaughter in the May 2024 stabbing death of Rachel Muswagon, 37.

He had stood trial for second-degree murder but was instead convicted of the lesser offence.

“Mr. Swampy armed himself with a knife during a domestic dispute over $20 and used that knife against a defenceless victim who posed no risk of harm to Mr. Swampy,” wrote Harris in his sentencing decision.

Drones will replace books in Manitoba’s newest government-funded library.

Ottawa has slated $1.14 million for the Manitoba Construction Sector Council, who will oversee the project.

The council is among six organizations Artificial Intelligence Minister Evan Solomon announced funding for on Tuesday in Winnipeg. In total, the feds promised $10.2 million for AI development and use in Manitoba.

“It’s very important to Manitoba’s economy that we start embracing this technology,” said Carol Paul, executive director of the Manitoba Construction Sector Council.

Bisons QB committed to excellence

Even in ideal circumstances, a steep learning curve is required to play football at a high level.

It's a complex game requiring military precision and an affinity for physical contact.

Studying to become a quarterback, the most important position on the field, stretches players to their limits. Aside from athletic talent, the job requires an ability to grasp an intricate playbook while also absorbing the nuances of different defensive systems.

This was the task Jackson Tachinski accepted in 2019 when he agreed to attend the University of Manitoba and play for head coach Brian Dobie. Oh, and by the way, he was also planning to play point guard for the Bisons men's basketball team while going to school full time.

Muslims prepare for second pandemic Ramadan

Brenda Suderman 4 minute read Monday, Apr. 12, 2021

After marking a pared-down Ramadan last year, Richmond West resident Asra Waleed plans to enjoy the small things during the upcoming Muslim holy month, including special meals with her family and attending mosque for community prayer when there’s room for her.

“The biggest thing in Islam is to always be thankful and grateful, whatever the situation is,” said Waleed, an English language instructor at University of Winnipeg.

“These values carry forward in relationship to the pandemic.”

Ramadan begins at sundown Tuesday, and continues for 30 days until May 12. During that time, adult Muslims fast from food or drink during daylight hours, pray five times a day, read and recite the Qur’an and donate to charity.
