Coleman Hell at Winterruption

Multi-platinum, Juno Award-nominated indie-pop singer-songwriter Coleman Hell is one of the headliners at the inaugural multi-venue Winterruption music festival, and takes the stage at the West End Cultural Centre tonight.

The 30-year-old Thunder Bay-native is best known for his breakout single, 2 Heads, which has surpassed 120 million streams on Spotify and went four-times platinum in Canada and gold in the U.S., as well as the follow-up single, Fireproof, which went double-platinum in Canada.

His debut album, 2016’s Summerland, earned him nominations for Juno Awards, MMVAs and a SOCAN songwriting award. New music from Hell is expected later this year.

Contemporary dance at Asper Centre

Students from the Senior Professional Program at The School of Contemporary Dancers are presenting BLUEPRINTS 2020, an evening of mixed repertoire work-in-progress at the Asper Centre for Theatre and Film, 400 Colony Street.

The School of Contemporary Dancers is a four-year training program and recognized as a leading centre for contemporary dance training in Canada.

BLUEPRINTS 2020 runs on Sat. Jan. 25 at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and showcases new work choreographed and performed by some of Winnipeg’s most exciting emerging contemporary dancers. Tickets are available on Eventbrite.ca and are $10.

Chill out at the WAG

Celebrate Inuit culture at the Winnipeg Art Gallery this weekend at the annual Arctic Chill Out event on Saturday, Jan. 26 from 1 to 4 p.m.

Dress warmly for outdoor fun on the gallery’s rooftop, including iglu building with the Manitoba Inuit Association, snow fort making and husky dog snuggles. Inside, there will be throat singing performances, a scavenger hunt, hands-on art workshops and video gaming; as well as snacks and warm beverages.

The family-focused event is free for WAG members and $20 per family, up to two adults and four children. Visitors can explore the exhibits currently on display with the price of admission.

Monster Jam Triple Threat Series

A Winnipeg winter just isn’t complete without the sight of oversized trucks careening over hills and spinning seemingly out of control — and that’s just on the daily commute.

If you want to see how the pros tackle donuts, wheelies, high speeds and plenty of four-wheeled tricks, BellMTS Place is the place to be this weekend as the Monster Jam Triple Threat Series stops in the city for a trio of high-octane, adrenaline-filled motorsports events that are sure to impress both young and old alike.

In addition to monster trucks and their high-decibel engine revving and oversized tires, the Triple Threat Series — whose Winnipeg stop takes place on Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m., as well as at 7 p.m. Saturday night — sees ATVs and speedsters (think modified dune buggies) square off at ice level as they take part in a number of different events in an effort to tally up points.

Drivers with the most points at the end of the events have a chance to punch their ticket to the Monster Jam World Finals, which take place May 2-3 in Orlando, Fla.

Tickets for the Monster Jam Triple Threat Series start at $13.50 plus fees and are available via ticketmaster.ca — VIP/meet-and-greet packages are available. And yes, they sell you the whole seat, but you may only need the edge.
