CEDAR PARK, Tex. — The Manitoba Moose need to keep playing big in Texas.

The Moose concluded the American Hockey League season with consecutive victories down south over the weekend and are brimming with confidence as they prepare to start the playoffs in the Lone Star State.

After downing the Texas Stars 4-1 on Saturday night, Manitoba’s focus shifts to the start of the postseason — against those very same Stars.

The Moose, the Winnipeg Jets’ minor-league affiliate, play a best-of-three, opening-round series, all at H-E-B Center in the community just north of Austin.

Game 1 between the Central Division rivals is slated for Tuesday at 7 p.m., with Game 2 set for Thursday night. A third contest, if necessary, goes Friday night.

The survivor of the short series advances to battle the Milwaukee Admirals in a best-of-five division semi-final series.

Manitoba had posted an 8-3 win over the Stars on Friday.

Texas and Manitoba had similar records during the regular season. The Moose went 34-35-3, while the Stars finished 33-33-6.

In Saturday’s triumph, Axel Jonsson-Fjallby scored once and set up another goal for Manitoba, while Brad Lambert registered his 21st goal and team-leading 55th point.

Lambert, who was called up by the Jets for their final regular-season game Thursday against Vancouver and recorded an assist, finished second in AHL rookie scoring, two points behind Logan Stankoven of Texas.

Carson Golder and C.J. Suess also scored for the visitors.

Manitoba starting goalie Thomas Milic stopped 22 of 23 shots he faced through 40 minutes and was then replaced by newly signed netminder Brett Brochu. He stopped all six drives he faced in the third period.

Brochu, just 21, inked a deal with the Moose earlier in the day. He appeared in 20 games with the ECHL’s Fort Wayne Komets this season, going 7-11-1 record with a 2.66 goals-against average and .920 save percentage through his first professional campaign.

He went undrafted after posting three solid seasons with the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League.
