ARIES (March 21-April 19)

The day might begin in a stressful way, especially with parents, bosses, VIPs and the police. But this does not have to be the tone to your whole day. Starting now, the next 12 months offer opportunities for romance, vacations and joy with kids.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20)

Steer clear of controversial issues because they will be a bummer earlier in the morning. Be reassured that starting now, and for the next 12 months, lucky Jupiter will help you to improve your home or find a better one. Family relations will be happier.

GEMINI (May 21-June 20)

You might be concerned about a financial squeeze this morning — perhaps it’s hard to pay bills. (Join the club; we number millions.) Fortunately, lucky Jupiter enters a part of your chart that will boost your optimism for the next 12 months. Happy days ahead.

CANCER (June 21-July 22)

There’s good news and there’s bad news. The bad news (but not entirely) is that Mercury retrograde is taking place in your sign. The good news (entirely) is lucky moneybags Jupiter will make you richer in the next 12 months.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22)

Great news. Big-hearted, generous, moneybags Jupiter moves into glamorous, loyal Leo to stay for a year. This will make your life more fortunate. It will bolster your optimism. It will attract favourable circumstances to you.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

The day begins with some challenges with your kids or a romantic partner. Someone sucked the joy out of your morning. However, as the day wears on you feel lighter and brighter. In fact, the next 12 months will be meaningful in a spiritual way for you.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

Lucky Jupiter is moving into the part of your chart that will activate your interactions with friends, clubs and organizations for the next 12 months. Friends will benefit you. Whatever you put out will come back to you. A popular window ahead.

SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Lucky Jupiter moves to the top of your chart for the first time in 12 years. It will stay there for one year, boosting your profession, career, social status and reputation in the community. This is your chance to move ahead through a promotion or public recognition.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

Lucky Jupiter moves into your fellow fire sign for 12 months. This is a big help. It’s like adding the third leg to a three-legged stool. In the coming year, you’ll be able to sit back and enjoy life and feel great. Finances look good as well. You wanted more?

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

You like financial security because you like well-planned endings. This is why you’ll be pleased to know moneybags Jupiter is moving into one of your money houses to stay for 12 months, which will boost your wealth indirectly through a partner or third party. It will attract money to you.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

Lucky Jupiter is moving opposite your sign into your house of partnerships making the next 12 months the best time for Aquarians to get married in over a decade. (You’ve got 11 months to meet someone special.) Seriously, this improves all your closest relations.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20)

Starting now and for the next 12 months, you’ll have wonderful opportunities to improve your health as well as your job. And if you can’t improve your job, you’ll find a better one. You will also experience greater joy with pets.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY

Actress Lizzy Caplan (1982) shares your birthday. You are sensitive to others. You’re also optimistic, imaginative and practical. This is a year of new beginnings, adventures and major changes in your life. Keep your eyes open for new opportunities. Define your goals. What you do now will bring great benefits in the future.

Man accused of impaired driving nabbed for speeding near park

BRANDON — A 22-year-old man is facing several charges, including impaired driving, after he was arrested last week for going 100 kilometres per hour near a park.

On July 16 around 4:30 p.m., Ste. Rose du Lac RCMP officers saw a truck that appeared to be travelling 100 km/h in a 40 km/h zone near a park in Ebb and Flow First Nation.

The truck was seen near the intersection of Lake Road Northeast and Northwest Road, RCMP said Tuesday.

Police realized the truck matched a description of a vehicle that had fled from officers multiple times earlier in the week, the release said.

NDP handily retains northern seat in byelection

Carol Sanders 5 minute read Tuesday, Jul. 21, 2026

Voters in The Pas-Kameesak stuck with the NDP — big time — in Tuesday’s byelection.

With all polls reporting, New Democrat Jennifer Flett received 74 per cent of the votes in the race to replace the late NDP MLA Amanda Lathlin. Flett, a former vice-chief and councillor for Opaskwayak Cree Nation, got a stronger mandate than the NDP received in the 2023 provincial election, when Lathlin received 67 per cent support.

Premier Wab Kinew welcomed Flett to the NDP caucus.

“She knows what families in her communities need, and I look forward to working with her to deliver better health care and more good jobs for The Pas-Kameesak,” he said in a release.

Decrease in crime an inconvenient truth for Poilievre

Tom Brodbeck 5 minute read 3:13 PM CDT

Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives have apparently decided that facts are an obstacle to their crime narrative.

The latest crime statistics from Statistics Canada, released this week, show the overall crime severity index in Canada fell five per cent in 2025. The conventional crime rate fell two per cent. The violent crime severity index declined and the non-violent index was also down. In other words, crime is falling.

So how did the Conservatives respond this week?

They ignored the broader trend, cherry-picked a few numbers that suit their political messaging and continued to claim that Liberal “catch-and-release” policies are responsible for “rising crime.”

Photos reveal ‘pretty nasty’ scene inside flooded Dauphin hospital

Morgan Modjeski 5 minute read 6:33 PM CDT

Prairie Mountain has released 22 photos depicting the muddy mess in the Dauphin hospital left by floodwater last month that has shut down the regional facility for as long as a year.

Dauphin Mayor David Bosiak said he understands the photos were released in response to criticism from some who wonder why the hospital will be closed for as long as a year.

“(The public) needed to see the scale and the scope of the damage,” he said. “And the pictures that PMH released today, I think have really opened people’s eyes as to what’s gone on at the hospital.”

He said 80 people are working to clean the filthy facility in conditions that are “less than ideal.” Sections of the hospital still have no power and there’s no air circulation as a result.
