ARIES (March 21-April 19)

TAURUS (April 20-May 20)

Be patient with partners and close friends this morning. Fortunately, as the day wears on, relations with others are warmer. You’ll enjoy conversations and short trips. Keep an eye on your possessions to protect yourself against loss at the end of the day.

GEMINI (May 21-June 20)

The day has some challenges. It begins with optimism toward your work, health or a pet. You might see how to boost your income. Later, you might feel annoyed with someone; and late in the day, unexpected events with partners and close friends will occur. Stay chill.

CANCER (June 21-July 22)

You’ll wake up with playful optimism this morning. However, challenges with kids and romantic partners might cloud things. Then later in the day, unexpected changes, high-tech glitches, staff shortages and power outages are likely. Oops.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22)

This is a feel-good day. Enjoy a second cup of your morning brew and count your blessings. Avoid tension with parents and authority figures. As the day wears on, social plans suddenly change. Parents should be vigilant to avoid children’s accidents.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

You’re full of big ideas this morning. You might want to take a short trip. (Could be anything.) Be smart and avoid arguments about politics, religion and controversial issues. Stay calm. Stock the fridge because late in the day, something unexpected might change your home routine. Be ready.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

This morning you have a warm feeling in your tummy about your finances. They look good. However, you might have a quarrel with someone about money or something you own. Pay attention the rest of the day to avoid accidents — verbal or physical. Stay sharp.

SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

The moon is in your sign dancing with Jupiter, giving you a warm feeling in your tummy. All is well. (Steer clear of arguments with partners and close friends.) Late in the day, stay alert to avoid something unexpected that impacts money or possessions.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

This day begins in a gentle, warm way that makes you feel good. You might be annoyed with a co-worker but it’s minor. However, after the moon shifts into your sign, you’ll feel restless and impulsive. An unexpected exchange with a spouse or partner might catch you off-guard.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

A friendly morning. You have much to look forward to. Be patient with kids and romantic partners, because squabbles might arise. However, after the moon changes signs, something unexpected might affect your job, health or even your pet.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

You’re high-viz. In fact, people admire you, especially at work. Don’t get sucked into arguments with bosses or supervisors. Later in the day, parents should be vigilant about their kids. Social plans might suddenly change.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20)

You might be excited about travel plans or doing something socially related to sports or your kids. Perhaps romance is in the air. It’s a nice way to begin your day. Avoid arguments later in the day, especially if your home routine is interrupted.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY

Musician/actress Ariana Grande (1993) shares your birthday. You are energetic, committed and self-confident. You’re also imaginative, ideological and compassionate. This year is about service. Focus on personal responsibilities and your well-being, because it’s important to take care of yourself since others will turn to you for guidance, comfort and courage. Enjoy personalizing your home.

Oscar parties: Pitt goes right in, Phoenix engraves-and-runs

Andrew Dalton, The Associated Press 5 minute read Monday, Feb. 10, 2020

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. - Brad Pitt, tux still on but tie gone and best supporting actor Academy Award stowed away somewhere, stepped out of a car with a few friends at the quiet back entrance to Vanity Fair's annual post-Oscars party.

“Do you want to go to the red carpet?” an attendant asked.

“Nah,” Pitt said. “Let's go right in.”

He'd had enough of red carpets, cameras and questions after a long awards season that culminated in a very long Oscars on Sunday and a victory in the best supporting actor category for his role in “Once Upon a Time ... in Hollywood." It was time to party.

Instead of being stationed on Broadway, a Manitoba government employee will set up their own office — in India.

The New Democrats will today announce their plans to open a trade office in the South Asia country.

“We’re going to be continuing to expand our global presence,” said Business Minister Jamie Moses.

Government has slated $150,000 for the trade office, including the representative’s salary. A request for proposal will be posted online Tuesday, Moses said.

Cab companies hailed for improved Indigenous relations

Three taxi drivers have been fired and others suspended without pay since a zero-tolerance policy for mistreatment of Indigenous passengers was implemented by Winnipeg’s two largest cab companies.

Unicity Taxi and Duffy’s Taxi began working with the guidance of an Indigenous-led safety committee to improve driver-passenger interactions in 2022, including the filming of a series of training videos and building in-depth policies in response to passengers’ complaints.

At a Thursday event to recognize the action group, leaders from both companies said there’s been a sharp decline in the number of complaints.

Unicity Taxi manager Abhishek Tara said three of their drivers have been fired since they adopted the zero-tolerance policy, which commits to investigating complaints of harassment, violence, abusive language and racism against passengers. Each vehicle is equipped with video and audio surveillance that’s accessible only to police and the city’s vehicles for hire department.
