The province will spend $9.7 million to resurface a major road in Brandon, Premier Wab Kinew announced in the Wheat City Tuesday.
Nearly three kilometres of Brandon’s 18th Street, between Aberdeen and Rosser avenues, will be rebuilt starting next week.
The pothole-filled road, which is part of Highway 10, was named the province’s worst road by CAA earlier this year.

“Brandon’s 18th Street is a busy thoroughfare and is an important route for not only for the city but residents and businesses across Westman,” Infrastructure Minister Lisa Naylor said in a news release.
The project was originally scheduled for 2028. The government made the decision to expedite the work because of the road’s deterioration after this year’s spring thaw cycle, Naylor said.
The resurfacing includes milling the existing pavement and replacing it with two layers of bituminous pavement.
The province had committed to the work earlier than scheduled as long as the City of Brandon completed underground repairs first. Water main and sewer work along 18th Street was completed last month.
“This project will greatly enhance mobility for both the citizens of Brandon and our visitors, making it easier for everyone to navigate across our city,” Brandon Mayor Jeff Fawcett said in the release.
The project is expected to be completed in October.
