CONTEST PERIOD: This Read the News and Ride the Rails Anagram Contest (the “Contest”) starts on Monday, November 3, 2025, and closes on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at 11:59 PM Central Time. The Contest is sponsored by the Winnipeg Free Press (the “Sponsor”). Canada One Travel has been retained by the Sponsor to help administer the Contest.
ELIGIBILITY: Entrants (the “Entrants”) must be individuals legally residing in Canada and who are the age of majority in their Province of residence at the time of entry into the Contest. The Winnipeg Free Press and Canada One Travel reserve the right to require proof of age and jurisdiction of residence prior to awarding any prize. Employees, agents and representatives of the Sponsor and its subsidiaries and affiliates, Canada One Travel and its subsidiaries or affiliates and each of their respective advertising and promotion agencies are not eligible to win, nor are the parents, siblings and children of any such employee, agent or representative or any person with whom such employee, agent or representative is domiciled.
PRIZES: There will be five (5) Weekly Prize draws during the contest period. Each Weekly Prize draw will select four (4) Weekly Prize winners, for a total of twenty (20) Weekly Prize winners over the contest period. Each Weekly Prize consists of a Canada Proud Manitoba Strong tote bag, t-shirt, mug, and sticker (the “Weekly Prize”). The Weekly Prize draws will occur on Monday, November 10, 17, 24, December 1, 8, 2025.
The twenty (20) Weekly Prize winners will be entered into the Grand Prize draw. There will be one (1) Grand Prize draw of an eight-night (8-night) “Via Rail Trip to the Canadian Rockies” for two to Edmonton-Jasper–Kamloops–Kelowna worth approximately $10,000 CAD (the “Grand Prize”). The Grand Prize includes:
Two round-trip economy airfares from Winnipeg, Manitoba
Via Rail transfer from Edmonton-Jasper-Kamloops
Coach transfer from Kamloops-Kelowna
Eight (8) nights shared hotel accommodation: two (2) nights in Edmonton, AB, two (2) nights in Jasper, AB, one (1) night in Kamloops, BC, three (3) nights in Kelowna, BC
Kelowna, BC: Kelowna wine tours to four (4) wineries
The Grand Prize includes breakfast at each of the hotels. All other meals, including any meals on the train, are the sole responsibility of the Grand Prize Winner. The Grand Prize draw will occur on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE: Entrants must:
Read the Winnipeg Free Press each day from Monday to Saturday to find the Read the News and Ride the Rails Anagram Contest ad containing the day’s anagram letter(s). Entrants can find the ad by using the Winnipeg Free Press E-Edition app, visiting the E-Edition website at ee.winnipegfreepress.com, or reading the Winnipeg Free Press print edition.
Collect all the letters published from Monday to Saturday and unscramble the anagram to guess the word of the week.
Log in at www.winnipegfreepress.com/read-and-ride-the-rails to enter the word of the week, as well as all required contact information, by 11:59 PM on Sunday. Weekly Prize winners will be drawn on Monday from all correct entries submitted.
Winnipeg Free Press paid subscribers will automatically receive one (1) additional entry per weekly submission.
Winnipeg Free Press paid subscribers will automatically receive one (1) bonus weekly entry if they log into the Winnipeg Free Press E-Edition app or website, and one (1) bonus weekly entry if they log into the Winnipeg Free Press News Break app.
Entrants can only submit one (1) entry per week. Entrants can submit a maximum of five (5) entries, one (1) per week, throughout the contest period.
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN – ALTERNATE MEANS OF CONTEST ENTRY: Entrants may receive one (1) entry for the Draw by legibly printing the Entrant’s name, street address, city, province, postal code, telephone number, complete email address, on a 3 x 5 inch (or 7.5 x 12.5 cm) piece of paper and mailing it to Winnipeg Free Press Read the News and Ride the Rails Anagram Contest, 1355 Mountain Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R2X 3B6.
CONTEST DRAWS: Weekly Prize winners will be determined by a random drawing from all eligible entries received by the Winnipeg Free Press during the preceding week. Weekly Prize winners will be announced in the Winnipeg Free Press the following Wednesday. The odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received. The odds of an entry winning any Weekly Prize will be the same, whether the entry was automatically generated or by alternate means of entry.
The Grand Prize winner will be determined by a random drawing from the twenty (20) Weekly Prize winners. All twenty (20) eligible Entrants will be invited to participate in the Grand Prize draw held at the Winnipeg Free Press, 1355 Mountain Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R2X 3B6. The Grand Prize draw will occur on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at noon. All twenty (20) eligible Entrants must be present either in person or virtually at the time of the Grand Prize draw to win the Grand Prize. The Grand Prize winner will be announced in the Winnipeg Free Press the following Saturday.
PRIZE AWARDING: Prizes will be awarded only on verification by the Winnipeg Free Press and Canada One Travel that all contest requirements have been met by the winners. Prizes must be accepted as awarded and no substitution, transfer, conversion or assignment of Prizes will be allowed, unless at the discretion of the Sponsor. A Prize of comparable or greater value may be substituted at the discretion of the Sponsor. The Grand Prize trip must be completed between May 1 to October 31, 2026, or the Grand Prize will be forfeited. If the Grand Prize winner makes any modifications to the Grand Prize that increases its value over and above the Grand Prize value, the Grand Prize winner will be responsible to pay the difference to Canada One Travel.
No correspondence will be entered into except with selected Entrants at the telephone number provided at the time of entry into the Contest, or on the mail-in entries. The Winnipeg Free Press will notify the Weekly Prize winners by telephone within one (1) day of each Weekly Prize draw date. The winner will have three (3) calendar days from the day of notification to accept the Weekly Prize. Neither the Winnipeg Free Press nor Canada One Travel are responsible for and shall not be liable for late, lost, misdirected, or unsuccessful efforts to notify the winner. If a selected Entrant cannot be contacted within the allotted time, the Winnipeg Free Press reserves the right to void that entry and select another eligible Entrant for that Weekly Prize. To be declared the official winner of a Prize, a selected Entrant must correctly answer a time-limited skill-testing mathematical question without mechanical or other assistance. The selected Entrant will be required to complete, sign and return to the Winnipeg Free Press a Declaration and Release Form within seven (7) calendar days of receipt. If a selected Entrant fails to complete, sign and return the Declaration and Release Form to the Winnipeg Free Press within seven (7) calendar days and/or provides an incorrect answer to the skill-testing mathematical question, the Sponsor reserves the right to void that entry and select another eligible Entrant for that Prize. By completing, signing and returning the Declaration and Release Form, the Entrant (i) confirms compliance with these Contest Rules and Regulations, (ii) releases and forever discharges the Sponsor, its affiliates and subsidiaries, Canada One Travel, its affiliates and subsidiaries and their respective advertising and promotional agencies from all claims, demands, damages, actions and causes of action arising or to arise by reason of the acceptance or use of the Prize, and (iii) gives permission to the Sponsor and Canada One Travel, at their option, to publish or otherwise use the Entrant’s name, city/town, province, photograph, voice and comments, without compensation, in any publicity carried out by the Sponsor or Canada One Travel or their respective advertising agencies.
CONTEST GENERAL RULES: By entering the Contest, Entrants agree to abide by these Contest Rules and Regulations and the decisions of the Winnipeg Free Press and/or Canada One Travel, which are final.

Requests must enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope.
DISQUALIFICATION: Neither the Sponsor nor Canada One Travel are responsible for lost, interrupted or unavailable network server or other connections, miscommunications, failed telephone or computer or telephone transmissions or technical failure, jumbled, scrambled or misdirected transmissions, or other error of any kind whether human, mechanical or electronic. Persons found tampering with or abusing any aspect of this Contest or the operation of the Winnipeg Free Press website or any other Winnipeg Free Press and/or Canada One Travel hosted website, as determined by the Winnipeg Free Press and/or Canada One Travel, in their sole discretion, will be disqualified. If disqualified for any of the above abuses, the Winnipeg Free Press and/or Canada One Travel reserve the right to terminate the Entrant’s eligibility to participate. In the event any portion of this Contest is compromised by virus, bugs, non-authorized human intervention or other causes beyond the control of the Winnipeg Free Press and/or Canada One Travel, which in the sole opinion of the Winnipeg Free Press and/or Canada One Travel, corrupts or impairs the administration, security, fairness or proper entry into the contest, the Winnipeg Free Press and/or Canada One Travel reserve the right, in their sole discretion, to suspend or terminate the Contest and to award Prize(s) to individual(s) selected at random from the pool of Entrants received up to the point of termination. In no event will more Prizes be awarded than those listed in the Contest Rules and Regulations.
TAX INFORMATION: Liability for any applicable taxes imposed by any government, if any, on any Prize won is the sole responsibility of the winner of such Prize.
QUEBEC RESIDENTS: Any litigation respecting the conduct or organization of a publicity contest may be submitted to the Régie des alcohols, des courses at des jeux for a ruling. Any litigation respecting the awarding of a Prize may be submitted to the Régie only for the purpose of helping the parties to reach a settlement.
REST OF CANADA: For residents of all provinces other than Quebec, any litigation must be commenced in the City of Winnipeg, Manitoba.
APPLICABLE LAWS: This Contest is subject to all applicable federal, provincial and municipal laws. Void where prohibited or restricted by law.
PRIZE DISCLAIMER: Neither the Winnipeg Free Press nor Canada One Travel shall be responsible or liable to Entrants for any losses, damages or costs incurred as a result of Entrants entering the Contest or use of a Prize won in connection with this Contest in accordance with the Contest Rules and Regulations. By participating in the Contest, each Entrant agrees to release and hold harmless the Winnipeg Free Press and Canada One Travel, the employees, officers, directors, shareholders, agents, representatives of the Winnipeg Free Press and Canada One Travel, their parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising, promotion, and fulfillment agencies, harmless from any and all losses, damages, rights, claims and actions of any kind in connection with the Contest or resulting from acceptance, possession, or use of any Prize, including without limitation, personal injury, death, and property damage, and claims based on publicity rights, defamation, or invasion of privacy. Neither the Sponsor nor Canada One Travel shall be responsible for any cancellations and/or refunds caused by, but not limited to, travel documentation issues, airline labour issues, pandemics, war, or acts of God.
