Grant Hrehirchuk is a Grade 9 student at River East Collegiate who loves to play sports.

“I am most focused on hockey and it is my favourite sport, too,” he said. “I like to do my goal cellies. I play forward because I like to score. Coach Halle in hockey is the best. Coach Faith at soccer is great, too. I like when she does the warm up. I hope to keep playing all the sports I love to play.”

Grant takes part in the Bonivital Soccer Club’s All Abilities Program. The BVSC All Abilities Program offers young people living with physical or intellectual challenges the chance to grow and play in a welcoming, customized setting. It is a truly beautiful program.

Grant lives in North Kildonan with his mom Donna, dad Greg, and sisters Ariel and Mikayla. Grant’s mom is very thankful for the BVSC All Abilities Program.

“Grant has Down syndrome. He loves to be active and play all kinds of sports. He is a very social kid and warms the heart of everyone around him. He loves to encourage his teammates. He is a huge fan of the Winnipeg Jets and the Blue Bombers,” she said. “When Grant was young there were not a lot of programs for kids with disabilities. Having the chance to learn skills and play as a team has been such an amazing experience. The coaching volunteers have been so amazing and inclusive.”

Much respect and love to all helping to run the Bonivital Soccer Club’s All Abilities Program. You are making a great positive impact in our community.

Grant is having a bunch of fun playing sports and being active, just like all kids should have the opportunity to do. He has this advice for other athletes: “Work hard and try your best and you can win the game.”
