Celebrating 35 years in the MMJHL, the Raiders Junior Hockey Club  hosted the 2012 all-star dinner and game. The banquet was held at Canad Inns Garden City, Feb.1. Raiders chose to honour two former players who passed too soon by calling the all-star teams, Team Coffey and Team Jacobucci. North Enders Robert Coffey, who died at age 41 playing the game he loved and former goalkeeper Paul Jacobucci, who left us at age 20, would have been proud.

At Billy Mosienko Arena on Feb. 4, Team Jacobucci, down 3-0 early, came back to chalk up a 12-9 victory.

Pembina Valley’s Graham Leiding, chosen Team Jacobucci’s top player, had two goals as did teammates Jesse Livingston and Brody Warren. Singles were added by Mitch O’Brien, Garett Shymko, Brady Bouchard, Jesse Toth, Andrew Dunsmore and Sean Kubas. Coffey MVP Mackenzie Acheson of Fort Garry/Fort Rouge had a goal and three assists while Austin Steinberger and Brett Harvie each scored twice. Cam Hildebrand, Danny Stewart, Brody Fostey and Mark Tomlinson also scored.

Team Coffey won the five skills competitions. Brett Nespor of Stonewall edged St. Vital’s Tim Hook as fastest skater; Acheson won in agility over Scott Brauer of River East; Matt Garvey of St. James topped Charleswood’s Toth in rapid fire accuracy; Hildebrand of Raiders took breakaway shooting over Leiding  and another Raider, Brett Gagnon, was top breakaway goalie over Lucas Felbel of Charleswood.
