Manitobans medal at the 2025 Canada Summer Games

At press time, the 2025 Canada Summer Games was still in full swing.
The event — which was held in St. John’s, N.L. — started on Aug. 9 and was scheduled to finish on Aug. 24.
As of Aug. 22, several Manitobans had written their names in the history books by standing in the podium having medalled for the province.
Team Manitoba medal-winners include St. Vital-based swimmer Maxine Lavitt, who is coached by Craig McCormick, had the experience of a lifetime, bringing home five medals: a silver in the 100m freestyle para women’s race; a silver in the 100m backstroke para women’s race; a gold in the 100m breaststroke in the para women’s race; a gold in the 50m freestyle para women’s race; and a silver in the 200m para women’s relay race.
Portage la Prairie’s Soren Weselake won a bronze in road cycling, men’s individual time trial; and a gold in mountain bike’s cross country men’s race.
Selkirk-based swimmer Teagen Purvis won a silver 50m breaststroke; a gold in the 100m backstroke; a gold in the 50m backstroke; and a gold in the 50m freestyle — all of these were in women’s Special Olympics races.
Winnipeg swimmer Ben Purvis won a bronze in the 100m backstroke and a silver in the 50m backstroke — both of these were in the men’s Special Olympics races.
Winnipeg’s leksander Seremak won a bronze in Canoe Kayak’s C-1 200m men’s event.
Winnipeg’s Luke Enns won a silver in the K-1 200m men’s race; and a bronze in the K-1 5000m men’s race.
