Welcoming summer in Seine River

As summer begins and students across Seine River enjoy a well-deserved break, I have been reflecting on the many celebrations that marked the end of another successful school year in our community.
As a former educator, this time of year always holds a special place in my heart. The end of the school year is a time to recognize the hard work and dedication of students, educators, parents, caregivers, and volunteers. It truly takes a community to support our young learners, and these celebrations are a reminder of the many people who help students learn, grow, and thrive each day.
Over the past several weeks, I had the privilege of attending year-end events, family gatherings, and graduation ceremonies across our community. Events such as the Highbury School’s family fun night, and the Louis Riel School Division grad powwow brought together students, families, educators, and community members to celebrate a year of learning, growth, and achievement.

One of the greatest honours of this season was attending graduation ceremonies at Collège St. Norbert Collegiate, Collège Jeanne-Sauvé, Glenlawn Collegiate, Dakota Collegiate, Centre scolaire Léo-Rémillard, and Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology. Watching graduates cross the stage surrounded by family and friends is always inspiring.
I was also proud to present a $500 scholarship to a female Indigenous student at each graduation ceremony. These young women have shown leadership, strength, and a deep commitment to their communities, and I know they will continue to do great things. Supporting Indigenous students as they pursue their educational goals is incredibly important, and it was an honour to recognize their achievements in this way.
One of the events that I look forward to every year is celebrating Canada Day with the River Park South Community Association at Highbury School. I very much enjoyed spending the day with residents and celebrating Canada.
As we head into the summer months, I want to extend my gratitude to everyone who helped make this year a success. I wish you all a safe, joyful, and restful summer. Enjoy the sunshine, spend time with loved ones, and take pride in all that we have accomplished together.
