Building opportunities and celebrating learning

It is always a privilege to represent Winnipeg West and to see first-hand the work happening across our community. Over the past few weeks, I’ve had the chance to take part in initiatives that reflect what makes our area such a great place to live: strong partnerships, a commitment to learning, and neighbours supporting one another.
At the end of February, I was pleased to announce a $10 million federal investment through Prairies Economic Development Canada to support the development of 127 acres of direct-access runway lands at Winnipeg Richardson International Airport. I was proud to make the announcement on behalf of the Eleanor Olszewski, the minister responsible for Prairies Economic Development Canada.
This investment will support the West Lands development project, helping prepare these lands for future development. It will create new opportunities for companies in aerospace, defence, and advanced manufacturing to locate and grow here in Winnipeg West.

West Winnipeg MP Doug Eyolfson joined students at Linwood School to celebrate I Love to Read Month.
Projects such as this help attract investment, create jobs, and strengthen Manitoba’s role in national and global supply chains. They also support long-term economic growth for families and businesses in our community.
I’m also pleased to tell you that my office is once again hosting a free community volunteer income tax clinic for residents of Winnipeg West. In partnership with Community Financial Counselling Services, we are offering a secure and convenient way for constituents to receive help with their tax returns. As tax season approaches, many families are balancing work, caregiving, and other responsibilities. Filing taxes can feel stressful, but it is also essential to ensure people can access important benefits. such as the Canada Child Benefit and the GST credit.
Residents can drop off their documents at my office, and volunteer accountants will prepare the returns virtually with care and confidentiality. The clinic is intended for individuals and families with modest incomes and simple tax situations. Appointments are required, and my team is happy to help determine eligibility and assist with booking.
February also brought one of my favourite community traditions, I Love to Read Month. I had the pleasure of visiting Linwood School, Strathmillan School, and Heritage Elementary School to read with students and speak about the importance of literacy.
Spending time in classrooms is always a highlight. Students are curious, engaged, and eager to learn. Encouraging a love of reading at a young age helps build confidence and supports lifelong learning.
From supporting economic growth to helping residents access important services and encouraging young readers, I look forward to continuing to work with community partners to build a strong future for Winnipeg West.
