We are living through a time of profound change. With the United States becoming a less predictable partner, Canada must be clear-eyed and confident about our path forward. That means standing up for our economic independence and strengthening our resilience.

Our government is working hard to diversify trade and build long-term partnerships with reliable partners around the world. By expanding new markets and deepening strategic relationships, we are protecting Canadian jobs and creating new opportunities in energy, agriculture, technology, and advanced manufacturing.

Diversifying trade is not abstract policy. It is about building the economy of today and tomorrow. It means more secure supply chains, more customers for Prairie producers, and more investment flowing into communities like Winnipeg South. It means focusing on what we can control and ensuring that Canada remains strong, sovereign, and prosperous in a rapidly changing world.

At the same time, I know that many families are feeling pressure at the checkout counter. I see it in conversations across Winnipeg South. The cost of living remains a real challenge.

That is why our Liberal team has taken action to support Canadians directly. The new Canada groceries and essentials benefit will help more than 12 million Canadians better afford day-to-day essentials starting this spring.

A family of four can receive up to $1,890 this year and approximately $1,400 annually over the next four years. Here in Winnipeg South, nearly 31,000 residents will benefit, bringing more than $14 million back into our community.

We are also investing $500 million to help businesses manage supply chain disruptions and introducing immediate tax relief for greenhouses to boost domestic food production. These measures strengthen food security and help prevent unnecessary costs from being passed on to families.

Our approach is straightforward. We are building a stronger, more resilient Canadian economy for the long term while taking practical steps to make life more affordable right now.

By diversifying trade, strengthening key sectors, and supporting families at the grocery store, we are standing up for Canada and delivering for Canadians. We are investing in the future while ensuring that households have the support they need today.
