SUMMARY:Peaceful Reflections - Art Exhibition & Sale
DESCRIPTION:Peaceful Reflections is an art exhibition bringing vibrant\, soulful\, and reflective watercolour paintings by Winnipeg-based artists Jennifer LaBella and Desiree Mendoza. All paintings are the artists’ “reflections” of the inspiration drawn from nature or the natural things around us. What we observe or appreciate is often a reflection of who we truly are\, and what we choose to be. It is the artists’ hope that visitors experience a feeling of peace and calm\, as they walk through and ponder on the various paintings showing landscapes\, florals\, animals\, etc. in Peaceful Reflections.

\nDesiree Mendoza is a Philippine-born\, Winnipeg-based Canadian artist who describes her art as whimsical\, vibrant\, and with a touch of doodles. Working mostly in watercolours and ink\, she draws inspiration from both nature and her innate imagination. She finds a sense of peace and satisfaction in every artwork she creates\, whether that would be on the subject of florals\, dragonflies\, and landscapes. She has also done commissions for both businesses and private collectors\, who find her style as expressive and one-of-a-kind. While her artworks continue to be an expression of her distinct voice as an artist\, she hopes that others will feel a sense of peace\, harmony and inspiration in each one of her paintings. See more of her art and follow her journey on Instagram @desmendozaart \nJennifer LaBella is a Winnipeg based watercolour artist. She has painted all her life\, starting as a young child when her mother gave her a set of old oil painting supplies. Over the years\, her true passion became the medium of watercolour. She taught herself by taking out every single library book on watercolour techniques\, and then shared her knowledge by teaching art classes at the Assiniboine Park Conservatory for several years. Jennifer enjoys painting in her home studio\, especially animals and landscapes. \nJennifer is also the author/illustrator of two children’s picture books: A Polar Bear Night of Stars and Light\, and Good Night\, Little Zebra. Both books are filled with watercolour illustrations. The original paintings for A Polar Bear Night of Stars and Light were featured in an exhibition at The Buhler Gallery in 2014\, curated by Patricia Bovey\, FRSA. Jennifer later donated most of the works to Ronald McDonald House and are displayed in the Children’s Hospital in Winnipeg. \nIn 2005\, Jennifer was one of the artists chosen to paint large concrete bears for CancerCare’s fundraising event called Bears on Broadway\, and painted three of the sponsored bears.

SUMMARY:Rehearsals
DESCRIPTION:In Rehearsals\, I use found imagery\, to create theatrical narratives. My intent in these paintings is to produce liminal landscapes: places of transition\, disruption and possibility that arise out of my combining disparately sourced elements. I am also fascinated with gesture\, the way we humans position our arms and limbs and what our resulting gestures can convey. Gesture is primal to human communication\, to the stories we tell ourselves and others. The narratives I paint are not specific. There is often no single or clear meaning\, no easily determined perspective. I am interested in multiple perspectives\, how each being in a painting carries at least one story. And how no one story is primary. I am drawn to the uncanny\, the mysterious\, the unexpected and to environments that seem marginal\, peripheral and that offer the viewer a sense of being betwixt and between\, being both awake and dreaming.

SUMMARY:Glimmers: An unparalleled collection of 30+ breathtaking new landscape paintings by Nicki Ault
DESCRIPTION:October 28 – November 10\, 2023 \nArtist Demonstration and Opening Reception — Saturday October 28th 12:30 to 4:30 pm (Artist Demos at 1:00 and 3:00 pm). Light refreshments. \nWith her soft application of oil paints and incredible use of light\, Nicki Ault is known for contemplative landscapes with sublime skies\, marvellous clouds and shimmering waters. Glimmers\, Ault’s first solo exhibition outside her home province of Saskatchewan\, is like a new beginning and the light after a storm. \nAfter enduring two incredibly rough years\, personally and throughout a pandemic\, Ault held fast to her art practice as an anchor. In early 2023 she spontaneously accepted a two month artist residency in Calgary. A saving grace\, this retreat allowed her to withdraw from the moil of everyday life and recharge. Having time and space to stay fully immersed in her creative zone\, steeped in books and endless reference photos compiled over the years\, she found her footing and began to heal. \nEmbracing her intuition with a renewed sense of clarity\, Ault poured passion into her paintings. Between soft layers of colour and creamy brushstrokes\, pillowy clouds sheathed in light and expansive fields effortlessly emerged. Her paintings embody quietude\, allowing us to pause and transpose our minds to a restful place. Finding brief moments of relaxation or joy\, like a breath of fresh air or observing a beautiful painting\, can help us recharge and restore a sense of calm. These moments are called “Glimmers*.” \nJust like a smell\, a touch or a place can evoke a unique feeling or memory\, glimmers can be different for everyone. They can be as simple as a smile from a stranger or a song on the radio\, helping to us feel safe and connected. \nNicki Ault finds her Glimmers in the beauty of nature\, stating\, “when in nature\, I feel like I am being charged up with love. I feel deeply connected to life when I’m at the lake\, by a river\, in the forest\, watching a sunset or standing on a country road feeling the power of a prairie storm. I absorb the energy of the moment\, save it and then try to articulate it via paint on canvas. I attempt to release the love from that moment onto the canvas.” \nWe hope you enjoy this exhibition\, and find a connection with Nicki Ault’s new paintings. We hope you find Glimmers! \n* A term coined by Deb Dana\, in her book “The Polyvagal Theory in Therapy”\, “Glimmers refer to small moments when our biology is in a place of connection or regulation\, which cues our nervous system to feel safe or calm. We’re not talking great\, big\, expansive experiences of joy or safety or connection\,” she says. These are micro moments that begin to shape our system in very gentle ways.” \n“Glimmers” – A solo exhibition of new paintings by Nicki Ault open Saturday October 28th and runs until Friday November 10th.
